The Ghanaian media extensively covered his announcement that he is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual on the Guinness World Record.

On February 1, 2024, Chef Ebenezer Smith began his cook-a-thon with the intention of breaking the existing record. He recorded 800 hours of cooking in his bid.

Chef Smith GWR Certification is Fake

A few hours after his GWR record was made public, a number of Ghanaian internet users who had doubts about his claim began attentively examining the certification.

A few individuals believed that Chef Smith’s certificate was not as large as the GWR standard certificate sheet. Furthermore, the certificate’s inscription did not follow the Guinness World Record’s precise format and moreover, the official website of the GWR has nothing about Chef Smith.

When the dispute over Smith’s GWR achievement broke out on social media, a few Ghanaian journalists went to Guiness World Records for clarification.

In a reply to a mail sent by Joy FM’s Kwame Dadzie, a PR executive of the Guinness World Records Alina Polianskaya revealed that Chef Smith’s assertion is a hoax.

“No, this is not true. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate. The current and true holder is: the longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours 57 mins 16 secs and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023,” Alina writes
